Warm ups:
10/1/12
If I was a meteorologist, I would study tornadoes. I would study tornadoes because they are interesting to learn about. Plus, after while, I would be able to predict when they will strike and how dangerous they will be. Once I will be able to predict that, I could save people's lives.
10/2/12
The Sun heats the Earth's atmosphere up with radiate energy. If a light bulb emits heat into the atmosphere, it is a form of radiation because radiation is heat energy that is transferred through space. The air rising above a fire is an example of convention because the air is moving.
10/3/12
Wind is caused by the unequal heating by the Sun on the Earth's atmosphere. It is through a heat transfer called radiation.
10/4/12
To create deep ocean currents, the denser water with the more salinity will sink and push up on the less dense warm water will move up, that will cause deep ocean currents. When fluids are moving and causing deep ocean currents, it is called convection. Convention is the moment of fluids caused by heats.
10/9/12
The difference between prevailing and local winds are that prevailing winds are global winds that are not affected by structures and are always blowing while local winds are different depending on where you are and that change with the seasons and are affected by structures.
10/11/12
Meteorologist use many different instruments. They use thermometers, barometers, rain gauge, wind instruments, Doppler Radar, and satellites.
10/12/12
Trade winds travel to the southwest in the northern hemisphere because trade winds head towards the equator. They move towards the equator because there are less dense air near the equator.
10/15/12
In high pressure, you usually have sunny skies and cooler temperature because the air is pushing upwards and making air sink. When the air sinks, it will clear the skies. In low pressure, the weather is usually cloudy or rainy because it is a area where air is rising and it condenses into rain/clouds. When there is high and low pressure, it is usually windy.
10/16/12
When air of different pressures mix, wind is formed. From the picture, you can tell that it is 76 degrees with 100% cloud cover. Also, you can tell that there is wind and the wind is 25 knots coming from† the northeast.
10/17/12
The air pressure inside the balloon changes when you blow up the balloon by the air pressure going up; it becomes a high pressure area. Wind is created when you release the balloon because all of the air in the high air pressure area is flowing into the low pressure area.
10/22/12
A low pressure system was created inside the can because the heated air is going to rise and expand, which is making more space in the can. A high pressure was outside the can because it was more dense than inside the can.
10/24/12
It tends to be cloudy in a low pressure system because it is less dense so there is more room for the clouds to move around. We will probably have a high pressure system, which it will probably be clear skies.
10/25/12
Air masses are large sections of high and low air pressure in the troposphere: there are similar temperature and density. They move across the Earth's surface and are responsible for the weather in the area that they were covering.
10/27/12
It shows that there is is 25% cloud cover with wind that is coming from southwest. The wind is 25 knots.
10/29/12
The weather condition in Dallas, Texas is clear skies with little rain. The weather condition in Denver, Colorado is cloudy with lots of rain.
10/30/12
The southern part of the country is experiencing low pressure. There are warm fronts, stationary fronts, and cold fronts shown on the map. A stationary front is coming near Denver, Colorado. It is not moving and there is cloudy skies and light rain. A cold front is coming near Dallas, Texas: it is moving southern with big storms.
10/31/12
There is high pressure areas in the northwestern part of the United States. There is a cold front coming from Southern Canada to the northern part of the U.S. There is also a cold front going away from the East Coast into the Atlantic Ocean.
11/1/12
Clifden, Ireland is so green and warm because of the Gulf Stream carries warm water to Clifden. It warms up the land when it should be cold. Hurricanes are an area of low pressure.
11/5/12
Oceans effect climates by the temperature of the water. If the water was warm, the climates will be warmer and if the water is colder then the temperature will be colder. We have clear skies in a high pressure system.
11/6/12
There is be warm, humid temperatures. When a cold front comes, you can expect cold weather with big storms. On Sunday, there will be clear skies with high pressure because a cold front will have already passed through.
